Senior Legal Counsel

The provision of high quality legal advice, policy and direction to the Worldpay from FISInternational business with a significant focus on complex projects and complex commercialcontracts work including e-Wallet agreements, PayFacs, and complex verticals. Critical to this willbe the ability to work seamlessly across time zones with Worldpay's global commercial, legal andcompliance teams, with the majority of time dedicated to merchant facing negotiations. This role isfor a very senior lawyer who has experience in another acquirer or Fintech company.The success of this role rests upon the ability to rapidly build personal credibility and ensureeffective stakeholder management across the business group.What you will be doingKey Responsibilities & Tasks:• Provide high quality, business focused legal support directly to a growing and developing globalbusiness through a strong understanding of both legal requirements and commercial implications.• Commercial contracts negotiation, liaising with customers, suppliers and senior management inrespect of negotiations, transaction structuring and contributing to debates and implementingsolutions outside of the legal remit.• Ensuring continual improvements to the capabilities of the in-house legal function.• Driving a consistency of approach across Worldpay in respect of appetite, policy standards andgovernance.• Legal education for the business through bespoke training.• Managing and engaging with external counsel (primarily re regulatory matters)Key Relationships:• Internal: Senior Legal Counsel, General Counsel, eCommerce, other Business-line General Counsels,Compliance Director and Compliance team globally, customer relationship managers, sales andmarketing teams, product teams, procurement specialists, technology and information security teammembers, FIS Legal team, the US legal team, risk team and internal audit•External: External counsel and other advisersWhat you bringProven ability to understand and provide incisive, reliable and commercial legal advice andsolutions on complex business issues as well as excellent drafting skills and professionalism.Understanding of financial services regulation and ability to apply new laws to complex commercialstructures and products.Knowledge:• Understanding of payments and financial services regulation• Broad ranging corporate, commercial and IT experience• Demonstrates a solid understanding of core legal concepts, particularly in contract law, withstrong drafting skills and an ability to supervise junior members of the team.• Demonstrates a good understanding of the legal issues affecting the payments industry,includingo Data Privacy including GDPR, PCI DSSo PSD2, IFR and FCA Regulationo Intellectual Propertyo Financial Crime and Anti Money Laundering Requiremento Taking SecurityExperience:• Experience at recognised commercial law firm (Magic/Silver Circle preferably) - solid trainingand some post qualification experience in private practice OR experience in in-house in a Fintechcompany• Ideally some experience in an in-house role (whether on secondment or after leaving privatepractice).• Managing relationships with senior lawyers, customers and internal stakeholders.• Comfortable with ambiguity and fast pace of change.• Excellent project management skills and ability to handle large workload with competingpriorities and deadlines.• Experience of negotiating and documenting a wide range of complex commercial agreements.• Working internationally (or on cross border deals).• Takes lead responsibility for conducting negotiations, with minimal supervision for standardmatters.Personal Qualities & Behaviours:• Sets high standards with high levels of personal accountability• Commercial, with an ability to deliver high quality work• Self-starter, able to do work with support rather than high levels of hands on supervision• Willingness to learn new areas of law/regulation and about the payments industry globally• Presence with effective communication and excellent presentation skills• Ability to instil trust and confidence at all levels of the business• Strong influencing skills across a diverse client base• Effective prioritisation skills• Able to foster a collaborative work environment• Sound judgement, unquestioned ethics and integrityAdded bonus if you have• Direct experience of payment services and/or financial services regulation and working withregulators in respect of expansion plans or change of control would be an advantageWhat we offer you•A multifaceted job with a high degree of responsibility and a broad spectrum of opportunities•A modern, international work environment and a dedicated and motivated team•A broad range of professional education and personal development possibilities - FIS is your finalcareer step•A fantastic range of benefits designed to help support your lifestyle and wellbeing•A work environment built on collaboration, flexibility and respect#LI-SC1Privacy StatementFIS is committed to protecting the privacy and security of all personal information that we processin order to provide services to our clients.
