Senior Buyer - Beer, Wines and Spirits

Job Description

Are you a commercially sharp Buyer with strong experience in BWS or FMCG categories? This is a great opportunity to join a fast‑growing, well‑invested wholesale business that’s scaling quickly and looking for someone who wants real ownership, pace and impact. You’ll be joining a company where decisions are quick, ideas are welcomed, and you can genuinely shape how categories perform. If you enjoy autonomy, supplier negotiation, and driving commercial results, this is a role where you’ll be noticed.

The Opportunity

As Senior Buyer for Beer, Wines and Spirits, you’ll take full ownership of your categories — managing supplier relationships, driving commercial performance, and ensuring the right products land at the right time and at the right cost. This is a hands‑on, fast‑paced role where you’ll influence everything from promotional planning to supplier investment and category strategy.

You’ll work closely with Operations, Sales and Finance to make sure stock flows smoothly, margins are protected, and customers have access to a compelling, competitive range.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day‑to‑day buying and trading activity across your licensed categories
  • Negotiate strong commercial terms, pricing and investment with suppliers
  • Build and maintain productive supplier partnerships, driving improved performance
  • Develop annual promotional plans, including trade events and retailer‑focused activity
  • Create and manage joint business plans to maximise supplier funding and ROI
  • Stay close to market trends and competitor activity to inform buying decisions
  • Deliver against key KPIs including sales, margin, stock holding and availability
  • Ensure new suppliers are onboarded efficiently and in line with compliance processes
  • Work with Operations to optimise stock levels and minimise excess or short‑dated product
  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure accurate cost, margin and invoice management
  • Support Sales with timely sourcing of new products and agreed volumes
  • Maintain accurate pricing files and buying documentation
  • Champion continuous improvement across buying processes and ways of working

About You

  • Strong buying experience within Beer, Wines and Spirits is highly desirable, but other Food and Drink categories considered.
  • Proven commercial acumen with a track record of delivering results
  • Confident negotiator with experience managing supplier relationships
  • Comfortable working at pace and making decisions under pressure
  • Highly organised with strong time‑management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including financial discussions
  • Strong IT capability, especially Excel
  • Motivated, proactive and keen to contribute to a growing business

What’s in it for you

You’ll be joining a fast‑growing, ambitious organisation where commercial ownership is encouraged and high performance is recognised. Alongside a competitive salary, you’ll benefit from a supportive culture, quick decision‑making, and the chance to shape category strategy in a business that values fresh thinking. This is a role where your impact will be visible and where progression comes from delivering results.
