About The Role This role requires a business reporter working to deliver a strong portfolio of digital and print products. The principal focus of this role will be on retail. Key Responsibilities Responsible for full coverage of the retail industry both in the UK and further afield when needed Develop interview and feature ideas within the sector and beyond Ability to spot trends and identify sector developments before they are widely reported Ability to write for other parts of the newspaper when required Aiding the business desk in helping to coach younger reporters in a number of areas when requested Writing a weekly column delving into the ins and outs of the sector Being a figurehead for the Telegraph in the retail sector, speaking at industry events and building up a detailed book of senior contacts Responsible for helping to maximise digital traffic Key Skills Experience of reporting on news and developing those stories on digital and print platforms. Able to spot stories and opportunities from raw data. Demonstrable proof of the ability to tell stories in a concise but interesting way. Experience of covering either business and/or economic news in a newspaper, newswire or digital environment is ideal - strong interest in the subjects and ideas around digital optimisation of content is necessary. Highly numerically literate - able to turn raw data into a concise news story. Digitally savvy - understanding of digital storytelling and optimisation of content through social media and SEO.
