About the Role

Here at Babcock International we're looking for a Design and Safety Process Engineer to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

The Plant Management Team, based within a Submarine Dry Dock facility at Devonport, ensures the design intent of the facility is achieved. Day-to-day this means understanding the mechanical, electrical and civil systems required to support the Submarine refit and identify and manage actions to ensure that the design intent is met. The Plant Management Team also own the nuclear safety requirements to manage and operate the facility.

As a Design and Safety Process Engineer you'll work with multiple stakeholders to ensure that the facility's nuclear safety requirements are managed and met. You'll author nuclear safety documentation to capture the status of facility plant and assets; manage the implementation of new activities on the site including liaising with multiple stakeholders and providing guidance on nuclear safety requirements; author and control the master documentation for nuclear rules on our site and investigate and implement changes and improvements to the nuclear facilities and assets


What do I need to be able to do the role?

You'll be educated to degree level in a STEM subject and have knowledge and experience of the working practices within a high hazard industry (highly desirable).

We would also like you to have the following:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Experience of scientific/engineering report writing
  • Good organisational and administration skills.

Lastly, you'll need to be able to deploy effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and have the ability to interface capably with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

What else do I need to know?

The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
